A single-zone system connects one outdoor unit to one indoor unit. It’s the right choice for heating and cooling a specific room or addition – a master bedroom, an addition over a garage, a home office. Single-zone systems are also used as the primary heat source for small homes and condominiums.

Multi-Zone Systems

1 Outdoor : 2-5 Indoor

A multi-zone system connects one outdoor unit to two, three, four, or five indoor units, each independently controlled. This is the right choice for heating and cooling an entire home without ductwork. Each zone has its own thermostat and can be set independently – the bedroom can be cooler while the living room is warmer, simultaneously.

What the Installation Day Looks Like

Single-zone installations are typically completed in four to six hours. We mount the indoor unit, drill the line set penetration, run the refrigerant lines and electrical connections, mount and wire the outdoor unit, pressure-test the refrigerant circuit, and commission the system – all in one visit. Multi-zone systems with three or more heads typically take a full day.

We protect all floor and wall surfaces before we begin. Refrigerant line sets are run as cleanly as possible, with line set covers available to conceal exterior runs. We leave the installation site clean.

Can a ductless mini-split heat my whole house in Vermont?

Yes, with the right design. A multi-zone system with correctly sized indoor units in each primary living area
can serve as the sole heat source for most Vermont homes. The key is that the outdoor unit and indoor units
are sized to the heat load of each zone, not just the total square footage. We do this calculation before every
installation.

Where does the line set go through the wall?

We choose the least intrusive path - typically through an exterior wall directly behind or near the indoor
unit, angled slightly downward to the outside. The penetration is sealed weathertight. On the exterior, the line
set runs vertically or horizontally in line-set covers that can be painted to match your siding.

How loud is a ductless mini-split?

Indoor units operate at 19–26 dB(A) depending on fan speed - quieter than a whisper (30 dB). Outdoor
units at normal operation run at 48–58 dB(A), comparable to a normal conversation at a distance.
Mitsubishi's compressors use inverter technology that varies speed rather than cycling on and off, which
eliminates the loud startup noise of older systems.

Do ductless systems dehumidify?

Yes. In cooling mode, ductless systems dehumidify as part of their normal operation. Most modern units
also have a dedicated dry mode that removes humidity without significantly lowering air temperature - useful

What maintenance does a ductless mini-split need?

The indoor filter needs cleaning every 4–6 weeks during active use - it's a washable filter that takes five
